Asif Afridi Print E-mail

Asif Afridi is Deputy CEO of brap. He is a Cambridge University social and political science graduate, with a European Masters in Human Rights and Democratisation.

Asif joined brap in 2002 and spent his first year conducting and reporting on research that laid the foundations for brap's growing reputation in the research field. In 2003, he took a sabbatical from brap to undertake a number of projects for the European Commission. For its External Relations arm in Brussels he was employed as a research officer in the Human Rights Department. His initial work was with the European Commission Delegation to Beijing, China. Asif's role was to monitor the progress of EU-funded Chinese human rights projects and to conduct more general research into human rights development in China.

Since his return to brap, Asif has managed a significant number of contracts and taken the lead on a variety of research projects, such as:

  • a report for the Finance Hub examining the effects of changes in funding for the voluntary and community sector

  • a think piece for the Commission for Integration and Cohesion outlining the link between deprivation and community cohesion

  • a report for the Performance Hub examining performance improvement in BME third sector organisations

In particular, Asif has developed brap's profile through the work he has led and supervised to ensure brap's vision, approach, evidence and learning is well articulated and disseminated to the widest range of individuals and organisations.
