Dr Chris
Allen is currently
the Director of Research and Policy at brap.
Before joining the brap
team, Chris taught at the University of Wolverhampton, the Open University and the University of Birmingham. It was at Birmingham
that he completed his research council-funded PhD, exploring the
discourse and theory of Islamophobia and other forms of discrimination against
Muslims in the UK.
He is well published both in the UK and elsewhere and was the co-author
of the European Union Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia’s synthesis
report into Islamophobia across the EU following 9/11. He is currently
finalising the manuscript for a forthcoming book on Islamophobia alongside
editing a series of three collections entitled ‘Muslim Diversities’.
In recent years, he has also
worked with a wide range of different organisations that have included the
House of Lords Select Committee on Religious Offences, the British Council, the
Greater London Authority, the Centre for European Policy Studies and Football
Unites, Racism Divides amongst others. He also writes a monthly column for the
Birmingham Post, regularly appears in the media (including Channel 4, BBC and
Sky News as well as various radio stations) and is a keen blogger.
