Sheilia is
involved in a range of consultative and organisational work designed to
help staff identify, implement and mainstream progressive equalities and human
rights policy and practice. Her major contracts have been with the
Learning & Skills Council and Neighbourhood Renewal.
Sheila is an
experienced facilitator and qualified teacher. She has taught in both higher and
education institutions over a 12-year period; been an A-level examiner; and
co-developed FE courses and curricula in non-traditional areas (e.g. Access to
HE courses). She is a Sociology honours graduate, specialising in
‘race’, gender, development studies, community action, and health. As an
undergraduate Sheila was commissioned by a local Community Health Council to
design and conduct a research project (into language issues and interpreting
needs) in the outpatients’ department of a large inner city hospital.
