Black Women's Network
Taking black women's voices from the margin to the mainstream
What is Black Womens Network?
The Black Womens Network (BWN) is one of a range of projects developed by b:RAP. Established in 2001, it draws on the idea that there is strength in unity and has formed a network of organisations and partnerships whose work impacts on the lives of black and minority ethnic (Black) women. Uniquely, BWN is founded on the belief that across the various identities and ethnicities of women in Birmingham, we have far more in common than things that set us apart. BWN strategic work is founded on that principle and where ever possible encourage our members to develop a more inclusive response to discrimination and inequality.
BWN:
- Coordinates an inclusive network of organisations and partnerships whose mission and work impacts positively on the lives of Black women.
- Identifies and supports agencies to respond to the needs of Black women in Birmingham
- Influences policies, practices, strategies and service provision of statutory and voluntary organisations
- Helps those working to improve the lives of Black women to improve the skills, knowledge and competence used to address discrimination faced by Black women.
- Identifies and support Black womens organisations to access additional resources in order to develop and improve and services for Black Women.
