Well, tea, obviously. But it turns out there's also a whole lot more.
Yesterday we had a discussion with some pretty cool organisations and people who are working with local communities. We wanted to share some of what we've learnt on #PushingtheBoundaries and just check in to see if it was making sense.
We talked about one conversation we had with a local resident who unpicked some of the emotions, issues, and concerns she had when she invited a neighbour from a different faith round for a cup of tea.
It turns out a simple cup of tea isn't that simple after all - it raises issues about how we relate to people we perceive as different, questions about gender relations, and concerns about doing the right thing and not offending others.
The challenge for us now is to help people get past this. To do this:
we need better evidence of what works;
we have to be critical of unfair 'cultural' practices;
we can’t be scared of conflict and discomfort
