The ConnectED project was created to support parents and teachers in developing greater confidence and skill in addressing issues of race and racism in schools.
Below, you can download two sets of resources:
Resources for parents
Engaging with your child's school can be a daunting prospect. The guide below offers some pointers for parents of global majority pupils who would like to advocate for the child or liaise with their school.
Resources for teachers
Throughout our work on the project, it has become clear that many educators would benefit from support in recognising how (un)conscious beliefs, societal narratives, and institutional patterns influence their perceptions and treatment of Black young people. In particular, we explore how racialised assumptions can affect behaviour management decisions, contributing to disproportionately high rates of exclusion, suspension, and managed moves for students of African, African Caribbean, or Mixed heritage backgrounds. These are not isolated incidents—they are systemic patterns that persist across generations.
These resources are not a critique of teachers’ abilities—far from it. We recognise that most teachers are already skilled professionals. Instead, the ConnectED materials are designed to build on existing strengths, offering space for reflection and deeper insight into how issues and perceptions of race can shape the educational experience of Black students.
These resources aim to prompt honest reflection, foster greater awareness, and build a sense of shared responsibility for challenging and changing these outcomes. By confronting these patterns together, we believe it is possible to create a future where Black children are no longer disproportionately impacted by racism in education.
We invite teachers to explore these materials with openness and curiosity—and we encourage you to reach out if you’d like to continue the conversation.
