Here's the full conversation from our latest #EqualityRepublic event – 'Representation: as good as it gets?'.
Improving representation of racially minoritised leaders can be seen as the pinnacle of achievement for some organisations. But is this as good as it gets? Is representation a celebratory opportunity – or should we be asking for more? In this short seminar, brap uses our reflections on evidence to draw upon some of the benefits of representation, but also some of its challenges.
We discuss:
what does it mean to be represented?
are we asking too much of our representatives?
personal experiences of the pitfalls of representation
are targets the best way to achieve equality?
does representation stop us discussing 'power' and who had it?
does it matter if we ever get a Black James Bond?
