Head of Finance and Operations brap Birmingham flexible and hybrid working considered (2-3 days in the office) Up to £45,000 DOE Permanent role
brap has evolved to stand for equality, fairness, human rights, social justice, and better outcomes for service users. It was created in 1998 to transform the way we think and do equality by responding to the challenges posed by increasing diversity: poor community engagement; superficial understanding of community demands and needs; entrenched inequalities; and professional paralysis on equality issues.
We support organisations, communities, and cities with meaningful approaches to learning, change, research, and engagement. We are a partner and friend to anyone who believes in the rights and potential of all human beings.
We are small dedicated team with lots of achievements under our belt. Look no further if you would like to work for a charity that has supported over 200 organisations in the last three years, engaging over 17,000 people in its development sessions, seminars, and online events.
Look no further if you would like to join a team that has helped support organisations like Oxfam GB, Amnesty International, Refugee Action, Macmillan Cancer Support, the NHS and many more. We are also continuously scheming up new ways to promote equality and have recently launched two new development programmes around anti-racism and being a white ally - the last of which has been rolled out to NHS leaders across London.
Our cutting-edge research has helped the police understand the underrepresentation of female and BME officers in senior ranks, helped the NHS understand why Black and minoritised staff might be unwilling to speak out, and shown funders how to tackle inequality in local communities. Last year we launched the Equality Republic, a social justice movement bringing together those with a passion for creating a more inclusive world. Now with over 150 members, were planning for the Republic to become even bigger and continue with its mission to speak truth to power.
In short, this is a great time to join brap; equality is even more needed across our society and we need to continue to make as much difference as we can, and to ensure that our operations are fit for purpose, we need you to be part of the team.
After 14 years our current head of finance is moving on and we are looking for new finance lead as we enter our new chapter of work. Reporting to the Chief Executive you can expect the usual areas of responsibility including the management of the charity's finance in compliance with regulation, operations, IT, and governance. You will be responsible for leading on and delivering the annual return to the Charity Commission and ensure our resources are utilised to best effect, and that risk is sensibly managed in pursuit of our charitable objectives.
The successful candidate may be qualified, or qualified by experience but will bring demonstrable experience of working at both strategic and operational levels.
The successful candidate is likely to have a commitment to promoting a culture of openness, collaboration, flexibility and ambition and ensure brap remains true to its core values.
