Shelter housing support: share your views
About this project
Shelter is a charity that helps millions of people every year struggling with homelessness or unfit housing. They want to make sure everyone who needs their help can get it.
Black, Asian, and other People of Colour experience significantly worse housing inequalities. Because of this, Shelter want to find out more about their experiences of accessing their services.
Who are we?
brap is a charity that works with people from a range of backgrounds to promote equality.
How can I take part?
We're looking for people interested in taking part in a short interview. If this isn't for you, you may want to complete our online survey.
Who can take part?
We're looking for People of Colour who:
-
have experienced housing issues in the past, but did not go to Shelter for support
-
have used Shelter in the past
'People of Colour' are people who do not identify as white.
How can I take part in an interview?
We are looking for people to take part in 20-30 minute interviews.
If you have received support from Shelter, we will discuss how you heard about Shelter, if the support was useful, and how your experience could be improved.
If you have not received support from Shelter (but have experienced housing issues), we'll talk about your perceptions of Shelter and what kind of support would have benefited you.
People taking part in interviews will receive a thank you for their time. Not everyone will be contacted for interview. If you do not receive an invite to interview you will be sent a survey link instead.
If you would like to take part, please email Ghiyas Somra, Research Manager, at ghiyass@brap.org.uk.
How can I access the survey?
You can complete the survey here. Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a prize draw to receive a £40 thank you voucher.
Why should I take part?
The research will help Shelter to improve services for People of Colour. By taking part in this research, you will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work that can improve support to People of Colour experiencing housing difficulties.
We are offering vouchers to thank people for taking part in interviews.
Please note vouchers may impact benefits. If you would like to take part but have received vouchers recently then we can signpost you to tailored advice to help you decide whether to access further remuneration. Please note we cannot offer vouchers to people who do not have ‘right to work’ status.
